Today i’m going to talk about a new website for social networking, music promotion and music competitions; www.beat100.com

Social media and social networking have come to form one of the core ways that new bands and unsigned artists can attract new fans and listeners. However, many of us are also aware that these mediums are still fairly limited - you get out what you can put in and your music seldom gets in front of the thousands of new listeners that you want.

Of course some sites do help you promote your music like reverb nation and others. However, they are slightly limited and again you get out as much as you put in. This seems to be the case with all online music promotion and in a way it is a good way to sort the wheat from the chaff or the artists from the amateurs.

Beat 100, however, is trying to do something a little different and is attemtping to create an online music platform where your music can attract thousands of new listeners simply on its merit.

At this stage the website runs a monthly $1000 cash prize competition for new music videos uploaded to the website. An artist or band can upload their video to the website and then encourage other users and their friends to vote for it in the music charts. Whichever music videos attract the most votes each month share in the prize pool.

This in itself is nothing particularly new but we also offer other benefits to musicians; we give press coverage to the best performing bands each month and to anything that is exceptional or stunningly original, we are in the process of setting up a radio station and we are adding a feature to allow artists to sell their music directly on the site. In addition we are setting up live events around the UK and promoting our website within the UK school system.

Our aim is to become the best place online for people to hear new music for free and to be the best place to see emerging talent from around the world. We have combined the best elements of other sites and added our own to create a massive platform for independent music promotion online and we hope that some of you will join us on the site.

In the long run we aim to partner with music labels and other music services to provide a complete platform for new music and we hope that some of you will join us and promote your new music and new talent.
