The music blogs lately have been wallowing in pessimism about the new social network from Google.  The general line of thought seems to be that Google + is yet another added burden along with Twitter, Facebook, that old website called Myspace, etc.  Everyone seems eager to point out that Google Plus alone won’t make or break a musician.

Of course adding another social network will not turn you into a star.  However, Plus has one feature that no other network or music website does.  When setting up your profile, you have the option of including links to your website and other social networks.  When people search your name, the links appear under the site description on the search engine page.  Because your Google profile will likely show up high on the listings when someone Googles your name, the links to your website and other networks, such as ReverbNation and Facebook, will all be immediately available.  Taking the 20 minutes to set up a profile will easily pay off in increased traffic to your other sites.

Matt Hundley is a musician, blogger, and brand new Google Plus addict.  He is Creative Director for www.GooglePlusForMusicians.com and www.IndieReviewer.com.  To find out more, and to check out his music, visit www.matthundley.com.
