One of my favorite blogs, Tech Dirt, reported today on the “flash mob” that occurred when one talented Tweeter updated her status. Apparently there are a ton of people who stay in on Friday nights (not me of course). Out of this discovery, led by singer, Amanda Palmer, a “Friday Night Loser T-Shirt” was born. Amanda went on to sell 400 of these tees @ $25 a piece for a total of $11K. Can we say brilliant?
The other $8K was earned by connecting with fans (CWF) and giving them a reason to buy (RTB) utilizing the following marketing tactics:
Webcast Auction ($6,000) - where her most fanatical followers bid on everything from a “guitar hero” plastic guitar controller used in an album promo shoot to a glass dildo (don’t ask, don’t tell).

Twitter Donation - Only Gig ($1,800) - Amanda hosted a first come, first serve concert in Boston, where the first 200 people to ask got in, for free. She then asked for donations and made about $2200 in cash. ($400 when back to the studio for the space and help)
Granted Amanda Palmer boasts a total of 33,536 Twitter followers as of this post. However, her label, Warner Music’s Roadrunner Records, had nothing to do with that. She is doing it all herself.
