BeeFM recently started a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo. The company aims to get audience support for taking the service a few more steps forward towards becoming the ultimate social music service.
BeeFM utilizes the music from your Facebook News Feed and Timeline to build a personalized “radio station”. Most of the music shared on social networks isn’t usually listened to or watched. BeeFM solves that problem and its users discover great new music and get to know their friends better.
The next step, BeeFM is planning and crowdfunding for, is the creation of social music channels. In addition to the existing personalized channel, users will be able to open a channel on any subject, not limited to genres, and invite the appropriate friends to share music on it. It can be, just to name a few examples, a jogging channel, a morning music channel, a party channel, a classic rock covers channel or, if you are a professional musician, a channel related to your own music. BeeFM promises that the social music channels will be highly engaging and interactive and the goal is to adapt the real life “listening to the music with friends” experience to the social networking world, beginning with Facebook.
BeeFM is also deeply involved in the independent (Indie) music industry and believes that the service can benefit emerging artists trying to get exposure to appropriate audiences.
The campaign’s goal is 25,000 USD, but there are stretch goals up to 200,000 USD, that will enable BeeFM not only to implement social music channels, but also to make a mobile version and add more social music features and tools.
On the decision to start a crowdfunding campaign, as an alternative to searching for institutional investment, Daniel Fogel, co-founder and CEO of BeeFM, says:
“There are a lot of music services around that claim to be social, but we feel that right now no one provides a real social music experience. We think that our ideas are innovative and we feel that crowdfunding is an appropriate way to raise money to implement those ideas while preserving our ability to help high quality artists to get their deserved exposure. Today, the mainstream radio channels are controlled by the, so called, “major labels” and music has become the means to fill gaps between advertisements. For every artist you hear on the mainstream radio, there are hundreds of high quality musicians that don’t fit this formula, thus they don’t get exposure. We believe that BeeFM will provide a fun and beneficial service to its audience and to talented musicians. For these reasons we decided to ask people to give us an opportunity to fulfill our dream about making the world of music better for everyone. “
