Games by Jamie Kent and the Options

A fresh, young 23-year-old singer-songwriter with big dreams and an ever-expanding fanbase, local artist Jamie Kent’s future as a performer looks quite promising. Drawing on influences from modern artists like Jack Johnson and Jamie Cullum, as well as paying tribute to classic greats Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra, Kent’s perfectly mellifluous tunes are roll-the-windows-down, soak-up-some-sun kind of good.

McAlister Drive

I spotted this band this past March down at SXSW where they played a number of shows. They made the trek down to Texas from Boston along with a few other bands from their hometown that were performing in Austin as well. This track was just released and they sent it to me a few days ago. So, I figured I should share this great new tune with everyone. Here is their link to get other streaming music Click Here

I Can't Wait (20th anniversary edition) by Nu Shooz Orchestra

More than two decades after their 1986 Top Ten Hit single, “I Can’t Wait,” took the world by storm, NU SHOOZ returns with a new album, “Pandora’s Box”, and a 10 piece orchestra Gil Evans would have loved. Formed in Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1979, their line-up has changed over time, but in all its various forms, they’ve always pushed the boundaries between pop, funk, and jazz. Now, with the release of Pandora’s Box, Portland’s favorite soul explorers take one giant leap for mankind with a brave new sound, combining their signature brand of funk with elements borrowed from Film Noir, ‘60s Spy Movies and even Tarzan.

Sidewinder by Xij

A track off of a soon to be arriving album called Ophidian.

The album deals with dark serpentine subject matter and the music tries to convey this.

Thanks for listening.

Influenced by many a music style and also horror and dark fantasy film scores, the sound of Taphophilia is an adventurous journey into the dark corners of the cemetery of your heart, a soundtrack to your funeral…

Interiors: A Short And Tragic Ballad

Young Has Beens is a band comprised entirely of large, omnivorous rodents who live together in an abandoned Oakland transit warehouse. This fact makes the relatively complex song structure and careful attention to detail of this arrangement that much more impressive.

Interiors is a track from their forthcoming debut album, due to be released in Fall 2010.

Put Your Hands Up High by Gangstagrass

Gangstagrass, was just nominated for an Emmy for the theme song of the hit FX series: Justified. The show stars award winning actor Timothy Olyphant and features the song “Long Hard Times to Come”, written exclusively for the show by Gangstagrass!

Sometimes you just know what has to be done and you can’t put it off any longer. History has to be made and there is no other way to do it than to just jump in the deep end and start swimming.

Fancy by Jonesez (Australia)

New track from indie rockers Jonesez off the debut album Betty’s Soup. This track was written after Mark left his suitcase behind at a hotel and had to carry on with the tour. It ended up being 13 days without a change of clothes, playing and smelling horrendously bad almost every night. So that is what Fancy is about…smelling bad and learning to love it.

Maybe Tomorrow by Davy Mooney

Davy Mooney is a world-renowned jazz guitarist who also sings and writes melodic, lyrically complex, and often nostalgic tunes with his alter-ego band ‘Davy Mooney and the Ghosts’. Featuring his guitar playing and vocals as well as saxophone and piano stylings from virtuoso musicians, the ‘Ghosts’ weave a genre-defying musical tapestry that aims, first and foremost, for the heart.

fresh electro music by the Dirty Honkers

What is the new music thing for this decade? Many people inculding myself would right away think of the electronic music. The party scene being huge in Berlin (where I work), this is the cutting edge that allows you to touch and interest young hip people on a broad scale.

But unfortunately, I keep on being disappointed by the crutial lack of creativity in a field that leaves so much space for new things. Basically the standards imposed by major Dj’s and Labels tend to become more and more established and everybody seems to go by this unwritten book.

The next thing is about breaking out the scene and let new blood in. Mixing the live music in electro IS the next thing. The challenge is now for musicians and producers to be able to work together in a similar direction. Some bands are aware of that and propose a new approach to music, half way between a concert and a dj set. The song I put up along with this post is representational of this idea.

check out the tracks by the bands Dirty Honkers and Jazzsteppa. Refreshing stuff!

Revel Without A Cause- Alexis Foxe

Alexis Foxe is a musical provocateur. Every song on “To Have and Want More” has a flavor all it’s own. From the 1940’s Big Band feel of the title track to the futurist pop synth style of “Revel Without a Cause,” Foxe shows her unique capacity to blend a wide variety of sounds.

Clarion by Tin Pan

Tin Pan connotes a world from the past – the most dominant and enlightened strains of American music of the early part of the 20th century – jazz, blues and American popular song. But it would be a mistake to say that Tin Pan is fixed in that past. Rather, it is music created to be enjoyed profoundly and joyously in the present. The band has created a rabid following by playing music that resonates powerfully because its intention is pure – to make people dance, smile and conjure with the spirit of music itself. On their new album, Hound’s Tooth, the band has perfected their sonic vision – effortless, wondrous and festive, feeling much like, as the band describes themselves, Ray Charles and Tom Waits at a Bourbon Street Parade.
