Creative Courage
Creativity is a given for all of us. I believe that all humans are creative beings, and just because you’re not making your living in the arts doesn’t mean you’re not doing something creative in your life. And if you’re not, you need to start right now.
Then take it a step further, because having the courage to let the world see and hear what you’re thinking or feeling is a completely different ballgame.
Creative courage. Do you have it?
I make my living as a songwriter and founded a company called Songwriter Girl. My main mission with Songwriter Girl is to connect girls and women globally. In our 4th year of hosting an all girl events called Songwriter Girl Camp, girls and women of all ages gather to focus on songwriting and creative empowerment. It takes courage for the attendees to come to camp, meet new people, share ideas and then perform them.
So, how do you find your courage? is it lost, are you rusty or do you just need to a little push to get started on the journey of finding who you are creatively?
Here are 3 ways to get motivated.
enCOURAGEment
To really kick it in, you need enCOURAGEment. Are you surrounding yourself with people who have your creativity’s back and your best interest at heart? Are you encouraging to yourself? Be honest with yourself and learn to validate your own work. Identify the positive and negative influences in your life and make choices based on being objective. EnCOURAGE others, this will come back to you a thousandfold.
coURAGE
“Ur age” has nothing to do with finding creative coURAGE. I studied with a wonderful acting coach who always encouraged us to pursue our acting bugs, no matter what age we were at the time. “Actors come in all ages, shapes, and sizes, ” he would say. And so it is with being creative. What is your dream? How can you step outside of yourself and find the way to your true expression? You can start to become great at any moment.
coUrage
It all comes back to “U.” I love that smack in the middle of the word courage is the letter “U.” It always reminds me that the choice to be creative and the responsiblilty to share it starts with myself. And of course, there’s no time like the present.
