Samsungs Milk Music moves to wearable tech
Milk music is an Internet streaming service that is exclusive to Samsung smartphones—that is, until now. Today, Samsung announced that it is expanding its service to Web TV and wearable tech. As John Pleasants, vice president of Samsung Media Solutions Center of America, states, this will transform Milk Music into a “big-screen jukebox for the 21st century home.” So what can you do with Milk Music?
Listen on Your Smartphone
Since its launch in March, Samsung smartphone owners have been able to download Milk Music from Google Play. You don't need to sign up or do anything else before you can start streaming music, claims Engadget. A sweet deal consider the service contains 200 genre-specific stations and approximately 13 million songs.
Samsung has emphasized its design that looks like a radio dial. This directs you to the different genres of stations such as pop, country, electronic, dance, chill, hip hop and so on. You can easily switch between genres by turning the dial, and you don't have to wait between songs. The sound is seamless, Samsung explains.
You also have the option to personalize your listening experience. You can adjust your preferences by shifting factors like release date, popularity and favorites to less or more. Additionally, you can add preferred stations or create your own around your favorite songs or artists.
These features have not changed for smartphone listeners. Milk Music can still be accessed from Samsung phones such as the Galaxy S3 and S4 and the Note 2 and Note 3 as well as all of its newer and slated phones like the Galaxy S5, Note 4 and Note Edge, reports CNET.
Watch on Other Devices
With this latest release, you now will be able to access Milk Music on your Web TV. Not only can you watch your favorite shows live, stream Netflix and connect to your favorite apps but now you can also listen to music.
Recently, Samsung announced and launched their wearable tech line. Most of these devices are smart watches that include cameras, music players, pedometers, heart rate monitors and Internet search capabilities. Now, you can make these devices even cooler by streaming Milk Music. You will be able to transfer your listening from your smartphone to your wearable tech.
Furthermore, Samsung announced that Milk Music will fit each screen so you will receive high-quality images that are customized to your smartphone, tablet, wearable tech and Web TV screen. This way, if you want to change the music video you're watching from your phone to the larger screen for everyone to see, the image maintains its high resolution quality and will not be blurry or distorted.
What This Means
Milk Music is one among many Internet streaming services. Many musicians and music-lovers have questioned whether these streaming services are good for the music industry. The argument being that these services do not pay enough so it is hard for artists to make any money.
This may be true for some of the larger artists who make most of their money from touring. However, streaming services give independent artists a chance to be heard or get discovered and Milk Music's services actually make it easier to find new music with simple preference adjustments. Because of these settings, Milk Music may be better for indie artists than all of the other streaming services like Pandora or Spotify.
This new outreach of Milk Music is exciting for all Samsung users. Whether you have a smartphone, TV or wearable device, be sure to download Milk Music from Google Play and see what it is all about.
