Music Gateway Looks To Musicians For Investment Through Crowd Funding

Since launching in August 2013, Music Gateway has grown by 62% to over 10,000 registered users. The unique business platform has served over 750 music project opportunities and received +2,800 pitches to date.

“I must start by thanking all of our founder members for their continued support and help in making Music Gateway happen. It is of fundamental importance to me personally that, as we grow, I look to include them in our success.

Our current investors aren’t musicians, therefore don’t fully understand or appreciate a musician’s mindset or the degree of passion and dedication taken to create good original music. We are quite simply a breed apart and it’s a bloody good job for the music industry we are too.”

Feed The Arts Introduces TIME Funding

FEED THE ARTS INTRODUCES TIME FUNDING WEBSITE FOR THE ARTS
ENTERTAINMENT SERVICE PROVIDERS BENEFIT AND BUILD THEIR BUSINESS WHILE HELPING ARTISTS

NEW YORK, NY (June 4, 2013)—

Feedthearts.com is forever changing the way art is funded by introducing its patent pending TIME FUNDING Model.  Time Funding is a cross between crowd funding and virtual rewards programs allowing fans to donate time instead of money.  Their time is what helps Artists get funded and allows funding of Creative Arts projects with fans earning virtual currency we call ?Helping Hands?.  Helping Hands are then turned around through an advertising revenue share and giving that currency to artists projects posted on the site.  This revolutionary model eliminates the risk of previous crowd funding and traditional funding models.

2 Lessons Serj Tankian Can Teach Bands About Kickstarter

Serj Tankian, best known for fronting System of a Down, has fully indulged in his own artistic endeavors since System went on hiatus in 2006. His solo projects have ranged from releasing his second poetry book to an orchestral performance of his critically acclaimed debut solo rock album Elect The Dead.

Now Serj is planning to record his first 4 act symphony called ORCA with The Das Karussell Orchestra at Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria on October 28th, 2012.

To pay for this project, Serj has personally launched a Kickstarter project for ORCA.

WHY DOES SERJ NEED HELP FUNDING ORCA?

The dude is ranked 26th in the Hit Parader’s Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time. He’s sold bazillians of records in his career. Why the heck can’t he just write a $25,000 check to cover the costs of this project?

Answer: This Kickstarter project serves a much larger purpose for Serj than just raising funds, more on that later.

Kickstarter versus Indiegogo

So as some of you who regularly read the blog know, I’m working up to doing some more stuff for fan funding projects.  I used Kickstarter last time & though my project was successful, I’m not sure that half the projects of my friends have been.  So I was looking around at IndieGoGo, which seems like the biggest competitor with Kickstarter for running fan funded projects.  So I wanted to let some people who might find it of interest know some of the reasons a person might want to use one over the other.

Kickstarter vs. NEA: Paths to Indie Funding

Have an album you’re ready to record and release? A film you want to produce and screen at festivals? How are you going to pay for it?

Talking Points Memo (TPM) reported this week that Kickstarter, the popular crowdsourcing platform, will likely distribute more funds to creators this year than the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). As amazing as that sounds, and in some ways is, these two organizations are “apples and oranges,” with different missions and modes of operation.

Crowd Funding and the Art of the Album Pre-Sale

People buy concert tickets months before an event. People pre-order books on Amazon before the book has been released. We all buy dinner at a restaurant before it’s been cooked. Why not pre-sell your album before it exists?
