Why Are We Waiting For Failure?

I think the problem with the pop music industry is that there is so much negativity around the people that become successful. Everyone is quick to hate, Justin Beiber, Rebecca Black, One Direction, Lady Gaga, etc. We are waiting for them to fail, to be exposed and to be brought down to their knees.

What a weird, jealous and selfish society we are living in.

For example I just read this article which bags out Justin Bieber for throwing up on stage.

Or the numerous articles saying lady gaga has gained too much weight recently.

This is a clear reflection of ‘The Culture’ we are living in. Instead of everyone hating, why can’t we show support?

Obviously, if Justin was sick on stage, then something is wrong, i.e. he is under a great deal of pressure, nerves, anxiety. He is only 18 and about to start his next tour. I don’t know about you, but that is a lot to deal for an 18 year old – even with the support of his team.

Why are we constantly waiting for people to fail? Is it fair enough to just say “haters are gonna to hate” and be ok with that?
It takes a lot of hard work for someone to get to that position. It may or may not be what every artist or musician dreams of; but if an unsigned/independent artist that you support becomes successful (in any way), wouldn’t you want to support them? Why should fame change anything about how we perceive or relate to an artist?

What’re your thoughts on this topic? I think bringing awareness to this and generating a discussion around this topic is crucial.

Hello Stephen,
what those haters are hating, in reality, is themselves. throwing garbage against a more successful person, just for the pleasure of doing it, reveals a strong need for a way to feel less miserable and frustrated.
so let's ask ourselves: why are so many people feeling miserable and frustrated?
and why are pop stars their preferred targets?
I think that pop stars are seen as symbols of the society that allowed their success, so hating them is an indirect way to hate the society.
the paradoxical consequence is that we should feel bad for the haters after all. besides, hating them will just add more negative vibes to this universe.
I agree with your suggestion to concentrate more on love and supporting what you like.
so I would ask a hater: "OK, but... what do you like?"
or just ignore him.
Peace ;)

Hi Stephen, I'm 20 so I'm past the age where I enjoy what beiber sings in his lyrics, I don't necessarily like lady gaga but I do like what she stands for...I guess some people are looking for them to fail because their lyrics well beibers lyrics make no sense at all...I mean that baby song didnt do much justice to him but it appealed to a younger audience and started a marketing ploy to get people like beiber and groups like one direction to sell out...its like the wiggles they are millionaires because the children's entertainment market sells...and now teenagers... Myself I like music from the past and for it to appeal to me today it has to have more than one word that repeats itself ...

I find that for every 100 YOUR GREAT's someone will tell me it sucks, and that's the one I focus on.
Maybe it's in our DNA. As cave men if we mess up we die, eat bad berries, go to a bear den to avoid the rain, etc... Maybe that's why we listen to critique.
But now most critique is to be CRITICAL or to lift someone else up. And all that is really is bullying.
I am also surprised at how many MUSICIANS will DOG another musician out. Like the U.S Treasury only minted 2 dollars and we are fighting for one of them. They offer NO help NO mentoring. I really HATE that part of the business. But I'm sure it will get better.
