Music Content Company, Able Baker, Launches in NYC

Industry-renowned Executive Producers of Music, Peter Gannon and Jessica Dierauer have joined forces to launch Able Baker, a new music content company based in New York City. Able Baker, whose name is taken from the first two letters of the original phonetic alphabet, offers original composition, music supervision and licensing, and is differentiated by their offering of music strategy/consultation and content production across TV, film, digital and non-traditional disciplines for both the advertising and entertainment industries. The company will be a connector between brands and musicians, partnering with them to create music for content and content for music, protecting creative ideas and strategically aligning all parties involved in music production.

Able Baker was born out of our love of music, and we’re passionate about making great music content in several rapidly-evolving industries,” said Gannon. “The overwhelming consensus from all parties involved is that music is a critical piece of the process, so we’re really excited to see what happens when we put it first. We’ve engineered so many collaborations between artists and brands in recent years and are looking to further this successful trajectory with Able Baker.”

Guide to the Artist Press Kit | Phosphene Productions

Guide to the Artist Press Kit

Intro -

Continuing with our recent guides on promotion, this week we’re going to discuss the Artist Press Kit. Because every artist represents its own “brand”, it becomes necessary to package your brand in such a way that it is attractive to fans as well as potential investors from within the music industry, while showcasing your marketability and strengths. For successful artists, having a press kit available at any time is a must.

But what exactly is a press kit and why is it so important to have one?

Essentially a press kit is exactly what it sounds like:  A group of documents which present the artist’s background, past shows, publishing achievements, current and future shows, as well as contact information. (Sounds kind of like a resume to me!)

Your image is your brand - you in a package - and is the key to selling venues and A&R representatives on the fact that you can make them money. Though this may all sound like a headache to put together, I assure you that you already have the majority of what you need!  It won’t take long to format and compile, and like I always say, “you get out what you put in.”

Your First Song: From Idea to Production

It’s always exciting to hit upon a song idea which can be the next big sensation. But translating that idea into a song or an album can be a daunting task, especially if music production is new for you. In this article we will demystify the process of creating songs from scratch.

A song starts with either a catchy melody or a set of powerful lyrics. Then music is added to the song, the song is given a structure and then it is recorded and goes for final post production. Let us look at each of these processes in detail.

Music Programming / Sequencing 101 – Essential Preparation

I’ve often been asked, “What are some things I can do to improve my music programming / sequencing?” In my experience, the most important thing you can do is: Learn how to play the instruments you are programming! You don’t have to become a virtuoso, but a basic understanding of how each instrument work will take your music programming to the next level. I’ve heard drum programming before where they programmed a tom fill while the ride cymbal kept going. The fill was complex enough that what was programmed would be physically impossible to play. Or a programmed flute plays a 15 measure line without a breath. Those are dead giveaways that it was programmed. With the quality of the soft-synths and samplers these days it’s stunning how, if you have an understanding of the instrument, you can have VERY believable tracks/parts. And not only believable, but musical too

The Age of Production

ProTools is the new guitar.

We’re in the age of production. –
Almost everyone’s participating!

Live concerts, the recording process, the number of “production” educational programs, electronic music, and much more.

Computers are shaping the future, innovation, culture, art, and more much in the same way rock and roll once did. If you’re a part of the youth, you want…
