Music photography: 4 Pieces of equipment for the perfect shot

As a music photographer, your job is a challenging one that comes with new curve balls every day. Because of this, you have to learn to be versatile and adaptable. Many different situations will come your way during your career, so get ready for them as they come your way. Working in the music industry will give you a very well-rounded set of skills. Besides that, remember that you will need the right equipment to make yourself a success.

Cameras

This is one piece of equipment that you will need no matter what. After all, it is your job to take photos. You might want to invest in a new one if you have not for a while. A new camera is a great idea for a photographer, so be sure to find one that works well for you. You will definitely want a digital SLR (single lens reflex) for far away shots or up close macro, depending on the lens you are using at the time.  

Camera Lenses

Camera lenses are an entire category all on their own. There are so many different kinds of lenses available for myriad cameras out there on the market these days. Be sure to research yours and get the appropriate one for your needs. For instance, a Sony camera lenses for portraits in 2021 is a great one to think about getting for those seated group shots. You should also have a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, a macro lens, and any others that you might need to get just the right shot.

Tripods

Tripods are a great tool to use for music photography. You can easily set up a tripod and take shot after shot while the band does its thing up on the stage. You can even set up multiple tripods all around you for ultimate versatility. That way, you can the same shot from multiple angles, which makes for a great effect.  

Gear Bags

After collecting all your gear, you will certainly need bags in which to store it and to help you transport it all to the various venues you will visit during your time as a music photographer. Get space enough for your tripods in one bag, put all your cameras in another, and then get a padded organizer for all your camera lenses. These you will want to keep somewhere extra secure, as they are the most sensitive part of a camera.

All in all, being a music photographer is a pretty fun job. You get to see bands play every day, all you have to do is take some good pictures of their performance. Be sure to use all your equipment and skills to obtain that perfect shot.
