Video: 3 pop vocal techniques to learn from "Drivers License" by Olivia Rodrigo

As a professional singer and vocal coach, I love to study the nuances in the vocal delivery of mega-hit songs. The goal of learning these stylistic choices is to interpret them to fit our own voices.  If you’re seeking a more contemporary sound, you can utilize these techniques by choosing the nuances that feel natural and authentic to you, remembering to maintain your own unique tone.
In singing lessons, it’s common to spend a lot of time developing technique, and not spend much time - if any - developing style.  In this video I point out three stylistic choices Olivia Rodrigo makes that gives her voice a contemporary sound, and helps her deliver an emotional performance.  See if you connect with any of these techniques.  You may already be doing some of them naturally as you sing along with her.  But I take it one step further and apply the three techniques to a song we all know at the end of the video to show you that they can be carried over to any song.  Try them on a song you’re currently working on and see how they work for you!
Your Online Singing Coach is LA-based professional singers offering live vocal coaching/singing lessons, and video courses for singers of all levels.
