Looking Into Beatport’s 2020 Trends And Winners
With touring and live events at a standstill, musicians and labels quickly turned to streaming and digital releases. In July, Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels confirmed that they’ve already seen a 10–20% increase in the number of releases and are expecting the trend to continue well into 2021.
Music research and analytics platform Viberate looked into the numbers and created a comprehensive report for this popular Electronic music domain.
Tech House tracks remain the most popular on the Beatport Top 100 chart, followed by House, Melodic House & Techno, and Techno (Peak Time / Driving).
Analyzing the Top 100 tracks in 2020, Tech House is also the most represented genre, with 39% of all tracks while the top-performing track is “Move Your Body” by Marshall Jefferson and Solardo.
Genre popularity also reflects the success of the fastest-rising labels on Beatport in 2020. Defected took the mantle, followed by Anjunadeep, Club Sweat, 1605, and Ultra.
When it comes to the most popular individuals, David Penn was named the best-performing House artist on Beatport by Viberate, UMEK took the Techno throne, and Break was named the top Drum & Bass artist. Their most successful tracks and collabs, along with a list of the 50 top-selling tracks of the year, are detailed in the report.
