Amplify Your DJ Brand with These 4 Tips

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 10 years, I would be surprised if you didn’t know about social media and what it means for you as a DJ, producer or electronic music artist. For a beginner DJ or as someone who is just starting your DJ career, it allows you to be successful even without a record label or radio support. Is It Legal for Your Business to Play Music Over Its Sound System?

Music can help clients relax in a waiting room, make employees more productive and overall improve the workplace experience. However, in trying to provide your business with the right type of music, you may be running afoul of the law. Business owners must get permission of copyright owners (aka recording artists) when playing music in the office, reports BMI.

What’s Legal, What’s Not

To understand the legal line between listening to music at work and breaking the law, you need to understand what constitutes a public performance. Any time a large group that is not a family or acquaintances listens to music, it constitutes a public performance. If you’re listening to a CD in your office or a shared cubicle with headphones on, it is not a public performance. If you get your cubicle mate to listen to a new favorite song, it is not a public performance. If you are playing that same track for the whole office, it is a public performance.

The Make REAL Progress System for DIY Artists and MusicPreneurs

Ya know, as i peruse my overloaded inbox yet again seeping with confounded confusion at the amount of skills to learn, hats to wear, funding and time they don’t have, tools they don’t understand…

Having been in the same place they were, feeling the exact same feelings they are right now, I know the uselessness of lecturing or ranting, or throwing some comparative story at you that you should strive to be like.

I am not going to pretend to tell you that it is easy to manage the complexity of being a DIY Artist in the Modern world.

One Book To Rule Them All! The Elusive "It" Factor in the Music Industry

I have always been a creative entrepreneur, and not allowed the world to get the better of me, but instead, let the world fuel me. Throughout 13 years in the music industry I’ve worked with some of the best in the business: Anita Baker, KC Porter, Jim Henson Studios, Never Land, OK GO, George Duke, Lauren Mayhew, Pomplamoose, and as far as I can remember, I’ve heard of “it,” this elusive thing setting apart the extraordinary from the ordinary. These people encapsulate: auras, energy, and empower all that are near; you’re drawn to them.
