The Self Storage Band - Practice Pads on the Cheap

Aspiring young musicians have been getting the dreaded practice space boot ever since the first commercially available guitar amplifier was produced by Fender in 1947. For bands that are passionate about their music and have the drive to spend hours practicing their skills, nothing is more demoralizing than having no place to play. And to add insult to injury the cost of a specially designed practice space is often out of reach, especially for hobbyist musicians.

Letting it Flow: Rules on Productivity

One of the questions I get most frequently is “how the hell are you so productive?” The easiest answer is ADHD and an obsessive need to get as much done in my life before I die, but since that (hopefully) only applies to a certain chunk of the population, here are some other suggestions I think could be helpful:

Need help winning Joe Bonamassa's Blues Masters Competition

Hello my name is Hollaman Lindsay and I am asking all of you to see if you can possibly aid me in my attempt to win Joe Bonamassa’s Blues Masters Competition. The first round for this contest is based off of viral popularity and how many views and shares your audition video gets, now I aint sayin that I cant generate that many views and shares because I dont have the talent, Its just that I live in Hiram Georgia and we got more stock in rakes then we do computers so its hard for me to find many people around me to support it. So I am inquiring you to see if you can help me get my name out there and get my audition video views and shares because if I can get past this first round and make it to guitar duals I think I got it made in the shade.

Why Learning To Read Music Will Enhance Your Success

Many musicians who have entered the big leagures within the industry have long claimed that they have no knowledge of general music theory; that the creation of their music is contingent upon a emotional context. Consider the eclectic guitarist, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, most known for his work with the progressive-rock group The Mars Volta. He claimed complete ignorance of theory, saying that the work comes within. This is a very ideal and perhaps romanticized way of self-perceiving yourself as an “artist” rather than musician. Fact is, it is rather unwise to go by this, since the yielding results are simply non-dependable.

Three Things All Independent Artists Should Do

The challenge of being an independent artist, especially when you’re starting off is that you have no one but yourself to answer to. This of course can be both a good and bad thing. For one, if you’re driven - you can do many things very fast because you don’t have to delegate. On the other hand, some days, nothing happens at all because no one but yourself is responsible for your career (and you decided to just stay at home and comment on all your friend’s Facebook pages.) A very real issue is that most of what we do as artists does not pay financially (at least not immediately). Most of it is groundwork, most of it is the business side of our careers. This of course makes us comes to terms…
