Say “Bye” To The “Buy”

We’ve all seen the ads, spam comments from random accounts, and posts that look oh so tempting to check out or even try. Increase your followers!, Gain more followers! Blah! Blah! Blah!…but of course it comes with a cost…literally. Now, we can’t discredit the supply/demand business savvy that is being used here. These fly by night business pages/companies are aware that people are now desperate to get their follower numbers up. With this in mind, they’ve set up a way to manipulate the social media numbers to create the illusion of a large following. It’s smart, in a way, because when one person sees that an artist has a large number of followers on their page, they tend to check it out to see what the hype is all about. However, at the end of the day, the numbers just don’t add up.

How to Increase the Reach of Your Music

Clients on board of Symphonic Distribution have a lot of offerings, but above all, they have choice. Our clients can choose when they want to deliver their content and where they want to deliver it. That choice is not easily found with our competitors, as some won’t even let clients have a direct account on a partner that the distributor is not delivering to (we call that ridiculous).

Beats Music v. Spotify

By John Lahr

As of January 21st Spotify now has a legitimate contender in the music streaming market, as Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s Beats Music steps into the ring. It is the culmination of eighteen months of development after Dr. Dre’s lucrative consumer electronics company purchased MOG in July of 2012. Entering with a soft launch in late January, the service announced its arrival in spectacular style with a Super Bowl advertising blitz featuring T.V personality Ellen DeGeneres. While Beats Music and Spotify have many similar features, both services have very different views of the future of the streaming marketplace, and different ways of communicating their vision to consumers.

Features Comparison

Like Spotify, Beats Music offers a library of over 20 million songs to choose from, the ability to create playlists and sync them to your mobile device for offline listening, and a radio feature1.  However Beats offers far more advanced features for discovering music thanks to its “Sentence” radio and “Just For You” curated playlists tailored to taste preferences you give when signing up.

Pickasound; A movement for the free expression of musical Ideas online

About 8 months ago, me and an amateur musician friend of mine living in Toronto were trying to collaborate on a few tracks for his upcoming album.

I created instrumentals and he wanted to sing over them.
We were both excited about working together on a project, but when it came time to communicate our musical ideas online, the process proved to be a daunting task.

Music Licensing Quicksand: Common Pitfalls To Watch Out For After The Ink Dries

Music Licensing Quicksand: Common Pitfalls To Watch Out For After The Ink Dries

By Christopher Rucks | Music Dealers

You’ve signed your license agreements. You’ve licensed the song you were hoping for, within the budget you were working with. Your project airs and you’ve checked it off of your list. All is going according to plan. Nice job. But hold on a second. There are a few instances where you may not be done, instances that require more attention after the ink dries on the contract. And you want to have some knowledge about these situations beforehand so if they do pop up, you’re prepared for these post-license circumstances and know how to handle them. Let’s take a look at three items that can occur after the ink dries.

Why Your Favorite Concert Recommendation Website is Terribly Outdated

The digital age may have changed music as we know it, but most concert recommendation websites haven’t quite caught on to the fact we’re living in the 21st century.

Whether you attend one or 40 concerts a year, all concert attendees have a right to be put in tune with the best music shows in their area.

MusikFly: Makes it Easy to Submit and Receive Music

As a musician it is extremely important for your music to be heard by the right people. As a blogger, it is extremely important to discover artists and help them gain publicity as efficiently as possible. I recently launched a service, Musikfly that helps both the musician and blogger to acheive these goals. Right now there are limited options out there for music submissions. Musikfly offers a simple submission platform that can be embedded into a blogger’s site and used in place of email for their submissions. So when a musician goes to their favorite blog and wants to submit their music, they just click a link, connect to their soundcloud or youtube, and add the songs they want to submit. Then once sumbitted, instead of having a clogged email inbox, the blogger has a clean filtered submission feed where they can listen to the songs and learn about the artists all on the same page.

The Day The Music Dies: What’s Really At Stake When Licensing Music

The Day The Music Dies: What’s Really At Stake When Licensing Music

By Christopher Rucks—Music Dealers

It’s more than just a car to drive. It’s more than just a belt to hold up your pants. It’s more than just a song to go in a web video. It’s a promise of service.

We recently lost a music licensing opportunity. We proposed a fee of 1K for the requested use; web content, worldwide, perpetual use, mid-tier, but phenomenally licensable up-and-coming artist that we have a great relationship with.
