This company wants to change the brazilian music industry

In the 90s, many USA rappers with lack of financial resources used to record amateur mixtapes and go out on the streets to sell the music by themselves. In Brazil, at the same time a similar movement was on course in the northeast of the country, dozens of popular bands would record their own CDs and distribute them for free all over Brazil in order to get famous and book concerts.

Hedging Against Uncertainty In The Music Industry

Let’s face it, the music industry is going through an uncertain period right now. Venues have had to close their doors indefinitely, and artists have been forced into busking online for money. The music industry is resilient though. This isn’t the first time it has been forced to adapt to tremendous change and adversity. No one is immune to the threats of disruption, volatility, and hyper competition that exist in this industry.

How Music Heals Dementia

Music is a powerful tool that has the ability to take you through time. If you’ve ever been listening to a song and suddenly found yourself reliving a childhood memory or re-experiencing a strong emotion, then you can attest to this. It’s safe to say that there are endless benefits of listening to music that span across health and education, and some of those benefits that you may have experienced yourself include increased happiness and even improved sleep. Music can have numerous benefits, and this is why it’s so effective for patients when used within the context of music therapy.

How AI Is Changing The Music Industry

The music industry has often been an early adopter of new technology. Musicians are keen to experiment with equipment that can usher their creative vision into new directions. Still, there have always been those who have seen the use of gadgets as in some way cheating, or uncouth. From the backlash Bob Dylan received after using an electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival, to the current industry reliance on Auto-Tune. Perhaps the discussion shouldn’t focus on the fact that musicians are using technology, but how they are using it in order to support their creative visions.

What Does “Success” In Music Mean?

Guest post by Patrick McGuire. This article originally appeared on Soundfly’s Flypaper

For some, it’s the ability to pay one’s bills exclusively through making music. Others think they’ll find it once their songs hit a certain number of plays over streaming platforms, or once they sell out of a run of physical copies of a new album. I personally love being on the road, and am always striving to feel like the crowd out there is really excited to see me play my music. That’s when I feel truly successful.

Success means something different to every musician, but one thing is clear: Musical success is no longer, and may never again be, what it used to be. I’ve been thinking about this question a lot, what success really means right now. Here are my thoughts on the matter.

What Makes A Good Acquisition? Music Does

Companies embark on the acquisition route to grow their businesses and extend their reach. Naturally this happens in every industry, that’s how we get conglomerates. In the record industry the majors only became majors after they’d acquired dozens of smaller successful labels that had ‘vision’, something sometimes lacking in the multi billion corporations.

Top 5 Best-Selling Albums Of All Time

Music has always followed people. Folk songs and traditional rhythms existed since time immemoriam. Later it developed into Bach, Chopin, Andrea Bocelli, Metallica and contemporary pop. The 10 Rules Of Networking

An insight Bobby begins his article with is more important today than ever:

Regardless of how much talent you may have, unless someone hears about what you’re doing you’ll end up creating in your bedroom your whole life.”

This is not surprising given the ever-increasing daily uploads to Spotify (currently 40,000 tracks per day) and the general democratisation of music production, distribution, promotion and consumption through digitisation and globalisation.

In this article, I will go into each of Bobby Owsinski’s 10 rules in more detail without going into the book’s details.

Networking For Introverts

As a newsletter recipient of Dorie Clark (keynote speaker, author of “Stand Out Networking”) I became aware of a fantastic article in the Harvard Business Review that suits my company tamanguu very well, in which she discusses the challenges and solutions for introverts in business networking.

Many music artists, but also music managers, who I met in my music business career, were introverted people. It sounds as paradoxical as it is when Dorie Clark characterises herself as introverted, despite she is often on stage as a keynote speaker. However, performing on stage is something different than business networking off the stage. Also for extroverts, this article includes some useful hints and insights.
